Bypass tweezers (also called reverse tweezers) are naturally "closed together" and you gently squeeze the handle to open the tips. Releasing pressure from the handle causes the tips to close back up again, into their natural position.

These are especially useful tweezers when you know you'll be holding your item in the tip of the tweezers for any length of time. They save you from having to continually squeeze the tweezers to keep them shut, as they are naturally shut when not being touched.
